Wenatchee Valley College Athletics has announced the appointment of Josh Ervin as interim head coach of the Knights baseball program. Entering his sixth season with WVC, Ervin assumes the leadership role after spending the past five years as an assistant coach and helping establish the Knights as one of the premier programs in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC).

Ervin is stepping in for Aaron Vaughn, who has been named head coach of Central Washington University’s Wildcat baseball program.

A Washington state native, Ervin started at Omak High School before continuing his playing career at Spokane Falls Community College. During his two seasons with the Sasquatch, he earned All-NWAC honors as a catcher before transferring to Emporia State University, where he was recognized as an All-MIAA catcher. Following his collegiate career, Ervin signed professionally with the San Diego Padres organization.

Ervin began his coaching career at Wenatchee High School, serving as both an assistant coach and head coach from 2017 through 2023. In 2020, he joined the WVC coaching staff, where he has overseen the development of Knights hitters and catchers.

Under Ervin's guidance, a Knights catcher has earned All-NWAC First Team honors every season. He has played an integral role in the continued success of the baseball program, helping lead the Knights to consistent postseason appearances and establishing WVC as a perennial contender in the NWAC East Region. Most recently, the Knights finished second in the East Region and advanced to the NWAC Championships, continuing the program's upward trajectory.

"We are very pleased that Coach Josh Ervin has chosen to remain at Wenatchee Valley College and lead our baseball program as interim head coach," said WVC Athletic Director Greg Sparling. "Over the past five years, Josh has played a vital role in building one of the premier baseball programs in the NWAC. His commitment to our student-athletes, his knowledge of the game, and his passion for developing young men have been instrumental in our recent success.”

Ervin said his vision for the Knights baseball program is to “continue doing what has built this program over the last five seasons: win the NWAC East and go win the NWAC Championship in Longview. Swords up!”

"Coach Ervin will build on the momentum of last year's outstanding NWAC playoff run, and with a strong core of returning players, I am excited about the future of WVC baseball,” Sparling said. “I have complete confidence that Josh will continue our tradition of excellence both on the field and in the classroom."

Ervin is equally passionate about developing student-athletes beyond the baseball field. "Baseball always teaches,” he said. “It's why it's the greatest game ever thought of. It relates to life more completely than any other sport. It gets in your bones, and years down the road you will look back and see that it taught you exactly what you needed to learn, exactly when you needed to learn it. It's beautiful and hard and glorious all at the same time. It will apply to your life in marriage, in employment, and in business. It teaches hard moments in the moment. You will grow in every regard because of this game, and then you will pass your lessons on to your kids, and it becomes legacy. At WVC, we help young men grow as ballplayers, but more importantly, we grow young men to do well in life."

Off from the field, Coach Ervin and his wife Emily enjoy life as empty nesters while their children, Lilly and Owen, pursue their college education and future careers. They enjoy traveling, exploring the outdoors, and spending time together.
